FAQs about Recruiters and Placement Agents
It's pretty simple: Recruiters work for the health care organization,
filling their open practices. Their loyalty is primarily to the
organization. Placement agents like ourselves are
an advocate for the physician during a practice placement search.
Our
primary role and responsibility is to assist you in finding the most suitable
practice. We contact
medical group coordinators and other healthcare
professionals to staff the
hospitals, clinics, and managed
care organizations. We
pride ourselves on superb
practice-to-physician matching.
Many other recruiting firms
simply
post resumes on their web site; we
actually scour the country,
making phone calls and sending
emails on your behalf, as we find you the practice
you are looking and make the
presentation to the health care
firm! physician recruiter,physician

Common
questions and
answers |
|
|
|
|
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"YOU STATE THAT
YOU ARE PLACEMENT AGENTS. WHAT DOES
THAT MEAN?"
|
|
A: Some recruiters/companies
charge hospitals a
retainer fee, in the same manner attorneys do. They are retained for services to be
performed in the future. They are advocates for the hospitals or medical groups
who retain them, and are expected to fill the vacancies that are open. By
contrast,
PhysicianHunter.com
agents are advocates for you, the physician. We scour the country
looking for the best practice matches for you and present you, as our client, to
the prospective practice. When a hospital or medical group hires you is
when the hospital pays our fee. There is never a fee charged to physician for
our expert services and diligent efforts.
|
| |
|
|
|
Q: "COULD YOU EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHAT A AGENT IS AND HOW
ONE WORKS?"
|
|
A: Sure! It'll come
as a surprise to
many, but most
agents are
small, independent
operators. Even
folks who are part
of huge companies
with recognizable
names are usually
franchise-holders.
In fact, many have
no actual nursing,
medical, or hospital
background at all.
This doesn't
necessarily mean
that they're bad, of
course! But, unlike
PhysicianHunter.com
agents, many
folks in our
industry don't have the experience or education in Healthcare Human Resources as
we do.
|
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"BEFORE I SEND MY
RESUME TO A
RECRUITER OR AGENT, I WONDER
IF THERE ARE ANY
DOWNSIDES OR
DANGERS?"
|
|
A: Actually, yes,
there are some
potential problems!
The most obvious is
that you might find
a recruiter with
very little
experience and very
few client hospitals
who simply can't get
you the exposure you
need. But, another
concern is that you
want a
professional agent to
represent you
with hospital
administration
and/or human
resources
executives. You'd
certainly want to put
your best foot
forward! So, you
want to make certain
that the agent or recruiter
who is speaking to
hospitals and
medical centers on
your behalf is
bright, articulate,
very familiar with
you and your
credentials, and has
the experience to
back you up, to
present you well,
and to negotiate on
your behalf. (Each
member of the
executive team here
at
PhysicianHunter.com
agents and our
affiliated offices
on both sides of the
Mississippi have
medical, nursing
administration,
and/or human
resources experience
spanning at least
two decades.)
Whether you select
us -- or someone
else -- just be
certain to get a
pro! (We have
established
professional
relationships with
some of the finest,
most-effective,
ethical, and
creative hospital,
nursing, and medical
recruiters in
America. We would be
happy to make some
suggestions, if
you'd like.)
|
| |
|
|
|
Q: "SHOULD I SEND MY
RESUME TO SEVERAL
MEDICAL RECRUITERS OR PLACEMENT AGENTS?"
|
|
A: No. And, yes. If
you send your resume
to several medical
recruiters agents, each of
us will send it
along to the same
hospitals. This
confuses the
hospitals and
confusion is the
last thing you want
to have associated
with your job
search! However,
when we here at
PhysicianHunter.com
agents represent
you, we will send
your resume to other
ethical, effective
recruiters or agents, often a
dozen or more. But,
our state-of-the-art
computerized
hospital jobs
database will
coordinate the
career search for
you, ensuring that
your resume gets the
maximum distribution
and exposure...but
without confusing
duplication. |
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"HOW LONG SHOULD I EXPECT TO WAIT
BEFORE PACKING MY BAGS?"
|
|
A: We can say this: if we get your
resume today, it'll be processed into
our hospital/medical career opportunity
database at once, usually the same
business day. Then, we have our staff,
our affiliated human resources offices,
and the other recruiters we work with
start sending out your resume at once.
This can happen within 24 to 36 hours.
After that, it's up to the hospitals.
Often, they won't schedule interviews
until all resumes are in, and potential
internal candidates have a chance to
apply. Then, search committees study
the resumes submitted, begin making some
preliminary telephone interviews, fly
the finalists in for site interviews,
check references, and then start
negotiations with their top choices.
That's the process. It isn't fast, but
using PhysicianHunter.com recruiters can
help speed things somewhat....
|
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"HOW CAN YOU SPEED UP THE TIMELINE ON MY JOB
SEARCH?"
|
|
A: Easy! First of all, we have strong working relationships
with many of the hospitals you'd apply
at if you were conducting a job search
alone. Whereas the resume you submit
could theoretically sit in a pile of
competing resumes from other medical or
nursing professionals, we are able to
"get a foot in the door" for you.
Remember, we're on a first-name basis
with many hospital executives around the
nation. Often, we can get your resume
out of the stack and looked at rather
quickly. Also, we speed things up by
working with the folks at the hospitals
to make travel arrangements for
interviews; we get you info about your
prospective employer and new community;
and we help the hospitals by offering
our free reference-checking service.
|
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"MY RESUME IS A LITTLE ROUGH. CAN YOU
HELP ME FINE-TUNE IT?"
|
|
A: Absolutely! We
offer a direct line,
reduced-fee CV
service. Because we
work with a steady
volume of practice
candidates, we have
a unique contract
with an exceptional
CV writing service
to help to
strengthen your
resume!
|
| |
|
|
|
Q:
"IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I INTERVIEWED.
CAN YOU GUIDE ME AS TO WHAT
HOSPITAL EMPLOYERS ARE LOOKING FOR
TODAY?"
|
|
A: Certainly!
Another of our free
services is a
pre-interview
consultation during
which we provide you
with unique
information about
your possible new
hospital or clinic
employer. We'll
review the size and
volumes at their
facility, and about
the specific
academic and career
credentials they are
looking for in a
candidate and are
likely to ask you
about. We'll help
smooth that rocky
road for you! We
also offer a reduced
fee interview
consultation with
one of the country's
leading interview
consultants - Amy
Agyeman of
